SOPHIE CANNON

The next chapter -Thailand Blog

Welcome to a new chapter of my site (and my life) as a working journalist in Thailand.

As I depart on a six-month trip to Bangkok, I wanted to set aside a part of this website for my other, non-article, writings and photos. I will be formally working as an au pair for a wonderful Thai family and living in the mostly ex-pat community called Nichada Thani. I also hope to use my shiny new degree in journalism (thanks Northeastern University) to freelance articles and photos from my time in Asia.

It’s always been a struggle for me to separate my professional writing from my personal. How much do I share or censor? Is this content as impactful as a fully reported piece? And mostly, who, besides me, even wants to partake in reading a blog by a 20-something traveler? Throughout these next few months, I want to try and not only separate my content, but my mindset when it comes to finding value in my writing. I hope to blog about activities and solo trips, but also about my thoughts and interpretations of my travels.

And so, in addition to fully reported articles and edited photos, I hope you enjoy my musings, half-baked ideas, snapshots and selfies!

One day until take-off…
